Higgins wins World Open for first title in four years

John Higgins won his first title in the World Open final in four years by defeating Joe O’Connor 10-6.

Scotland’s four-time world champion led 6-2 in China Yushan, before sealing his 32nd career ranking.

At 49, he was the oldest ranking finalist since 1986 and signed with a century of rest in the final frame.

Higgins beat Zak Surety 6-5 in the semifinals by 5-3, a record for Ronnie O’Sullivan to reach the quarterfinals of 146 ranking events.

His last championship was in the 2021 Players Championship.

World No. 39 O’Connor won a great match, beating only his second-place final, defeating Ali Carter, Judd Trump and Shaun Murphy.

The 29-year-old Briton previously won second place in Gary Wilson at the 2022 Scottish Open.
