Gervonta Davis v Lamont Roach Jr: WBA lightweight fight ends in controversial majority draw

Gervonta Davis retained his WBA lightweight title in a controversial majority of Lamont Roach Jr in New York.

Boxing Superstar (won the previous 30 battles), he volunteered to kneel in the ninth round against WBA super lightweight champion Roach.

But the referee didn’t call it a knockout – two judges later scored 114-114, awarding Davis 115-113 for the third time.

“If you willingly bend your knees and the referee doesn’t count, it’s knocking on the door,” said Roach, 29. “If that’s a knockout, I’ll win the fight.”

Falling to the knee – Not following Roach’s fist – Davis walked to the rope where his face was wiped with towels.

Davis, 30, later said he “just finished my hair two days ago” and the grease on his hair entered my face and it burned my eyes.”

After the battle, four world champions Terence Crawford claimed Roach called for a rematch-before-been “robbed.”

He posted on social media: “Roch won, that should be called a knockdown. I (I (I) have never seen anyone with a knee, they are not considered a knockdown.”

On the trump card, the Dominican Republic’s unbeaten Alberto Puello defeated Spain’s Sandor Martin and decided to retain its WBC lightweight title.

Two judges fought on Puello 115-113 and 116-112, and the third awarded it to Martin 115-113.
