Cian Healy: Retiring Irish prop grateful for 10 extra years after neck injury

Irish Pros Healy said he was “thank you” for his 10 years of his career after announcing his withdrawal from the sport.

Irish record cap holder Healy will end his international career after the Six Nations and call at Leinster at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old said he was “thank you” for still playing after a neck injury that almost ended his career in 2015.

His right hand lost his movement after the damaged disk in his neck was damaged, but he recovered and surpassed Brian O’Driscoll’s player against Australia in November.

“After that, I had different ways of football and how to spend time and work on football,” Healy said.

“When this is almost taken away by you, you provide more thanks for these opportunities.

“You managed to like it more, and I managed to squeeze in for 10 years of enjoyment.

“Everything has been good since then. I’ve been pecking up and down, but it’s better than not.”
