African Energy Chamber (AEC), National Council for Economic and Social Development (CNDES) Cooperation to Boost Equatorial Guinea’s Oil and Gas (O&G) Sector Growth
African Energy Room (AEC) (AEC) (https://energychamber.org), the voice of the African energy sector recently interacted with the National Commission for Economic and Social Development (CNDES) of Equatorial Guinea to explore strategic cooperation aimed at maximizing the energy resource potential of the country’s socio-economic growth.
The discussion focused on local content development, energy financing, oil and gas production optimization and capacity building. As part of this collaboration, AEC is committed to providing CNDES employees with modern skills and expertise in the oil and gas value chain.
AEC, with its broader mission to avoid eliminating energy poverty in Africa, reaffirms its commitment to help Equatorial Guinea attract new oil and gas investments from international partners. The Chamber is a staunch supporter of African markets, including Equatorial Guinea, using oil and gas resources to ensure access to electricity, promote industrialization and job creation. To further position Equatorial Guinea’s energy sector on the global stage, the AEC will actively promote investment opportunities at high-profile industry events, including the Invest in African Energy Forum in Shanghai on March 13, 2025, and the Invest in African Energy: Paris conference from May 13–14, 2025. Additionally, the African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energy – Africa’s premier event for the energy sector – will take place from September 29 to October 3, 2025, Topic Invest in Africa’s energy: Position Africa as the global energy champion. As Equatorial Guinea prepares to launch new licenses in 2025 to revitalize its upstream sector, these activities are the ideal platform to connect international investors with the country’s lucrative opportunities.
During the meeting, the AEC and CNDES agreed to work together to attract new capital to the policy revitalization and financial strategies needed to attract new capital to Equatorial Guinea’s oil and gas industry. Given CNDE’s position as an official advisor to government socio-economic principles and AEC’s voice as the African energy industry, the partnership will help create a favorable investment environment, increase private sector participation and enhance oil and gas production.
Furthermore, as AEC prepares to host AEW: When investing in African energy with the first African Mining Week, collaboration with CNDES will surpass hydrocarbons, including promoting mineral potential in Equatorial Guinea
The AEC also commended Equatorial Guinea for its efforts to strengthen its position as a key player in the African and global energy markets during the conference. Equatorial Guinea is a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and plays a key role in the stability of regional and global oil markets, with several international oil and gas companies, including Chevron, Marathon Oil, Trident Energy and Vaalco Energy, launching new projects. Ongoing major projects such as the Gas Mega Hub and Zafiro Field expansion are crucial to drive the continued growth of the Equatorial Guinea oil and gas industry.
“Equatorial Guinea represents one of Africa’s most recognized and growing oil and gas markets. Through its partnership with CNDES, the AEC remains committed to supporting the country’s ambitious agenda to maximize growth in its hydrocarbon sector,” said NJ Ayuk, executive chairman of the AEC.
