Instagram May Spin Off Reels As a Standalone App, Report Says
Instagram may be considering rotating its reel feature into a standalone app.
According to reports information.
The report said the move is part of an internal initiative of the parent company Meta, called the Ray project, to undertake the popular Tiktok. Ray is also focusing on improving the algorithms behind content suggestions and enhancing support for longer reels, the report said.

“Whether an element is suitable for an element depends on how it affects the recommendation system for the reels,” he told CNET. “Many people complain that it is not as good as tiktok. Creating a separate application may reflect a broader effort to prioritize the company’s reels, which may indicate more investment in the reel recommendation system.”
Meanwhile, Meta may want to see its significant return on investment in generating AI and launching separate applications encourages streamlined collaboration within the AI Gen Gen Tear team, he said.
Despite this, Messing said: “It’s hard to have this move unrelated to Tiktok’s recent legal drama.”
