Bill Sweeney: Rugby Football Union (RFU) offer to devolve power before key vote
Interim RFU president Bill Beaumont, who joined Sweeney as a representative for the roadshow conference club, believes the CEO’s critics “do not represent a broader view of our game.”
“Voting without confidence could cripple the alliance and create an expensive leadership vacuum,” he added in an open letter.
The former England captain also reiterated that the board was ultimately tied to the fate of the CEO and supported Sweeney to remain in his position.
“Any decision related to the CEO is the responsibility of the RFU Board of Directors, which unanimously support Bill Sweeney as CEO,” he wrote.
“This support is based on his achievements to date and his ability to provide RFU strategies while inspiring our ability to respond and respond to what we hear from your members.”
