Amber Whiteley: Interim boss wants Liverpool job permanently

Liverpool interim boss Amber Whiteley said she would “put my name on the hat” as Matt Beard takes on a permanent role after leaving.

The 47-year-old Fired on Thursday It ended his second spell at the club.

This is Whiteley’s second spell as interim boss, who had been in charge of the club since January until after the 2021 season, Vicky Jepson left.

Whiteley hopes to lead the team at least by the end of the season, but is eager to get the job full-time.

“I’ll put my name on my hat,” she said. “The recruitment process has begun.

“When these opportunities come, you have to stand up and show exactly what you are capable of. It’s important to do this and do it as a female coach.

“When a manager leaves the club, there is always a different mood. It’s never easy.”

Whiteley recently served as an assistant to Carla Ward on the Women’s Team in the Republic of Ireland, and he thinks she’s ready for her this time.

Last time, Liverpool took the championship, Whiteley helped the team finish third, winning five of her nine league games.

“The biggest thing I took away from before was that I was able to do the job,” she said.

“I was in a better position when working with Matt and under his leadership. I was in a better position now in terms of being able to move the team forward.

“I’m so grateful to Matt for everything he has personally given me over the last three years and several years. I’ll miss him.”

Liverpool is seventh in the women’s Premier League with eight league games left and faces Arsenal in the FA Cup quarterfinal next weekend.
