England v Spain: Women’s World Cup finalists meet at Wembley in Women’s Nations League
England won the European Cup 2022 and had its second straight major championship final in the World Cup one year later.
But since then, it hasn’t been smooth sailing.
They missed a spot in the 2024 Olympics and won only two of the last six games.
Defender Millie Bright describes it as a “roller coaster” for a few years in the World Cup runner-up.
“Of course, everyone wants to win every game and make us the best team, but that’s not the reality.”
“When you go through tough times, it’s a good thing because it builds the character. Football is always a journey. It’s always important to stay in the moment.”
For Spain, their achievements on the court have been overshadowed by their challenges.
Former Spanish Football Federation owner Luis Rubiales was Convicted of sexual assault After kissing player Jenni Hermoso without her consent at the 2023 World Cup medal ceremony.
After winning the World Cup championship coach, the player testified in court to support Hermoso in support of hermoso Jorge Verda fired by the Federation as part of the incident.
But on the scene, Spain achieved further success, winning the first National League, despite their dissatisfaction in Brazil’s Olympic semi-finals.
They were tied to a back-to-back draw in October, but beat the European Heavyweight France 4-2 in December, before making a comeback last week to beat Belgium.
Spanish defender Laia Codina said: “Since (the World Cup), I think both teams are up and down. I would say we’re here at the same time.”
“We know that if we want to do something in the euro, both teams have to be better. Both teams that compete against each other in the World Cup are different.”
