Champions Trophy 2025 England v Afghanistan: Coach Jonathan Trott on bravery of his players
Trott has coached in Afghanistan since 2022, but still lives in Birmingham. When the players meet in the camp in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), he travels, which is home to its main training base and hosts a number of fixtures.
Under the Taliban rule, women’s rights were attacked. Women are forbidden to enter parks and universities. The Taliban also raided the homes of female athletes, and many female cricketers fled Afghanistan for safety.
Some of Afghan’s most well-known male players, including Rashid Khan, of superstar’s legs, have objected to these issues.
Despite banning its women’s team from clearly violating the International Cricket Commission (ICC) regulations, it is still allowed to play on the world stage.
“These guys are brave,” Trott said. “They know the difference between right and wrong. It’s a really tricky situation for them.
“They know who they play for and who they represent.
“We strive to bring joy to the country and these people do it with passion, courage and pride, but it is not right to fully understand something.”
When asked if his team could bring about changes in Afghanistan, Trott said: “I don’t know, but I hope it can.
“Currently, this aspect has this capability.”
Afghan female cricketer who fled to Australia last month participated there. They have Say they are “proud” for the men’s team But want to be treated the same way.
In January, a cross-party letter signed by nearly 200 British politicians was sent to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) calling on England to refuse to participate in the match.
The ECB has been criticizing the ICC’s reaction to demand uniform action, but the game will continue when that’s not coming.
Trott was born in South Africa and was banned from the global sports phase due to the apartheid regime. Instead, the ICC stands that Afghan teams should not be punished for government policies.
“I can see the attention of the world,” Trott said. “I’m worried. I have a daughter playing cricket.
“I am proud of where I am and the change that has been made to improve everyone. Hopefully I will see this one day in Afghanistan.”
After the defeats in Australia and South Africa, both England and Afghanistan may have to win their remaining two games to reach the semi-finals.
