Women’s Nations League: Republic of Ireland boss Ward targets Nations Cup win over ‘top side’ Slovenia

Ireland manager Carla Ward said they will face the Slovenian side in the National Cup match in Copper on Tuesday night.

Slovenia beat Greece 2-1 in their league Group B opener on Friday, while the Irish Republic Win 1-0 On Türkiye in Dublin.

“Slovenia is top-their age group is showing. Every age group is improving.” Ward told RTE Sport.

“The first team is no different. They are a good side, they have players with Champions League experience. But if I’m honest, I think this type of game will be better than a game against Turkey.

“Why? Because you have two teams that want to play football. There will be some space to open up and it will naturally lead to better games. It will be a very different game, but it will be a tough game. Gained rich quality.”

Kyra Carusa started as the owner of the Republic of Ireland when Ward won over Turkey at Tallaght Stadium.

But, Ward said her team was “good” after the game and there was room for improvement.

“The system never changes – I have a very clear way of playing and players can see that,” Ward said Monday.

“It is trying to continue to convey these messages, but we will try to see something that can make us create more because we are not creating enough (oppose Türkiye).

“We looked at it – five photos of the first half, the second time didn’t. It was our last few days on the court and on the court and put a lot of work in our lot of work.”
