Man Utd redundancies: Up to 200 staff to be made redundant

Manchester United will lay off up to 200 jobs to “restore the club to profitability.”

Last year, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had about 250 employees laid off during the first wave of cost-cutting measures.

Co-CEO Omar Berrada told employees at a meeting with employees on Monday that there will be a round of redundancy as part of the “transformation plan.”

The club statement reads: “The transformation plan aims to restore the club to profitability after five consecutive years of losses since 2019.”

It added that other measures are being taken to “improve the club’s financial sustainability and improve operational efficiency.

“This will create a more solid financial platform from which clubs can invest in the success of men’s and women’s football and improve infrastructure.”

Berrada said: “It is our responsibility to put Manchester United in the strongest position to win our men’s, women’s and college teams.

“These tough choices are necessary to regain a stable financial foundation for the club.

“We have lost money over the past five years. This cannot continue.

“Our two main priorities as a club are making success for fans and improving our facilities. If we keep losing money, we will not be able to invest in these goals.”
