India 2-3 England: Visitors win in Hockey Pro League match in Bhubaneswar
Sam Ward scored twice as England topped the professional league table with a 3-2 win over India at Bhubaneswar.
England led the way from Jacob Payton’s strike in the first quarter, but was quickly fixed in the first quarter after Abhishek Nain completed from close range Section 2.
After a moment, Ward pulled England back in front at rest and then gave visitors a 3-1 lead with a strong hit before halftime.
After the restart, India regained momentum, halving the deficit through Sukhjeet Singh in half of the messy local comments.
But England kept the game in the last 20 minutes, thanks in large part to goalkeeper James Mazarelo.
The result means that England surpassed Belgium’s professional league with a goal difference.
Since the founding of the Professional League in 2019, the best performance of the England men is second in 2024-24.
India and England face each other again in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday (14:00 GMT).
