Champions Trophy 2025: Joe Root backs “brilliant” England captain Jos Buttler
Buttler’s team won only three of nine games in the defending champions at the 50th World Cup in India in 2023.
Last year, they reached the semi-finals to defend the T20 World Cup but were eventually defeated by India, losing to Australia and South Africa earlier in the match.
From 2017 to 2022, Captain Root scored England in 64 Tests – at most all players. He won 27 of these games but ended his term with 17 victories before resigning in 2022. He also suffered two heavy blows in Australia’s Ashes Series.
“I certainly think this team is doing more right than some of the teams I’ve worked on,” Rutt said.

“I’m going to say that you may be frustrated by it, or you may be excited about it,” Rutt said.
“The fact that we are doing a lot of things is a good thing, and that’s what we have to really focus on.”
England is expected to hold a change in Lahore on Wednesday Bowler Brydon Carse is excluded from the game Toe injury.
Rehan Ahmed is summoned to his position, but the leg wingman is not expected to arrive in Pakistan until Wednesday, Jamie Overton is most likely to replace Card Carse.
