People evacuated after huge lorry fire breaks out

People have evacuated from their homes after a massive truck fire broke out in industrial estates, the fire department said.

Greater Manchester Fire Rescue Agency (GMFRS) said 10 fire trucks were in the fire “involving heavy trucks” on Ennis Close in Wythenshawe.

“Residents are advised to close windows and avoid the area after the fire broke out after 08:00 GMT,” GMFRS said.

“It sounds like fireworks, and then it gets bigger and bigger,” said local resident Ben Meighan-Carey.

He added that “there are continuous bangs” sound like “exploding” for five to 10 minutes.

Mr. Maihara Yui said, “I looked outside and there was a lot of smoke.”

The fire is on the Roundthorn Industrial Zone near Wythenshawe Hospital.

GMFRS said 10 firefighting equipment from all over Greater Manchester were summoned to the fire.

A spokesman said: “The crew arrived soon and were working to put out the fire.

“Several properties nearby have been evacuated.

“Greater Manchester Police Department and Northwest Ambulance Service also attended the meeting.”
