Man taken to hospital after west Belfast shooting

Police said a man was taken to hospital after a shooting in the Bell Steel Manor area in Dunmuri, West Belfast.
It is understood that the man was driving a taxi at the time of the shooting.
Northern Ireland Ambulance (NIAS) said the incident occurred at about 10:32 GMT.
Bell Steel Road, which leads to the road, is currently closed.

Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) dispatched a quick caregiver and first aided the incident.
Nias said a patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance after on-site evaluation and initial treatment.
“Shameful Violence”

SDLP MP Paul Doherty described the incident as a “shameful act of violence.”
“There is no such violence on our streets, and the use of guns in this attack is also very worrying,” he said.
“I urge people to avoid the area while the police are conducting an investigation and provide any information to the police so that the shooting can be arrested, and the weapon was caught before it caused harm to anyone else.”

Sinn Féin MLA Danny Baker condemned the “reckless attack” and added that there was no “reason” for guns on the street.
“It’s a very busy area in our community, with many local families and children visiting the shops, attending sports training and having their daily life,” he said.
“I would like to extend my best wishes to the person who was taken to the hospital and I hope he will recover completely.
“The community is very worried,” Baker said.
“There are a lot of kids who need training and they will come out and see this, which is not good.
“Our community doesn’t want this,” he added.
“Outrifying Attack”
In a statement, Profits Councilman Michael Collins said he was “shocked and angry and heard the shooting of West Belfast taxi drivers”.
“There is no support for this violence from any part of the community,” he said.
“These actions destroyed the families and could only drag the working-class community back.
“I hope that the victim of the victim of the person who recovered quickly will condemn this meaningless act of violence without reservation.”
