Power of Service: African Union deploys new cohort of Youth Volunteers
The African Union has deployed and joined the 12th Youth Volunteer Team. 45 young professionals from 23 countries across the continent will volunteer for 12 months in various African Union Commission departments as well as government offices and departments of African member states.
Implemented by the African Union Commission’s Bureau of Women, Gender and Youth, African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AUYVC) is a continental development program that recruits and collaborates with young people to develop volunteerism and deepen young people’s position as key players in the development and transformation of the continent. The program provides opportunities for young Africans and gains important professional experience, social competence, international exposure and leadership, allowing them to make meaningful contributions to the achievement of an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa.
Since its launch in 2010, the program has successfully recruited, trained and deployed over 1,000 young professionals from Africa and diaspora. AUYVC is an integral part of youth development and empowerment programs 1 million next-level initiatives, Designed to reach 300 million young people by 2030, specific opportunities in five priority areas – education, employment, entrepreneurship, participation, and health and well-being (4ES + H).
Africa has the youngest population in the world, aged 15 to 35. With such a population, it is crucial for the continent to capitalize on its youth’s potential. Wishing Chapter 6 of 2063 affirms that the Africa we want is “Africa, whose development is driven by people, relying on the potential of African people, especially their women and youth, and caring for children”. Au-YVC is committed to cultivating a generation of African leaders who are willing to serve their continent and people, have a knowledgeable African motivation, and are brave enough to proactively be responsible and challenge themselves, with a bold adventure that builds themselves and their continents through service. .
