Officials said a West York Borough policeman and a gunman were killed and several injured after shooting at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York County, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

York County District Attorney Tim Barker said the man entered Upmc with a pistol and zipper strap bag. According to the Associated Press, the man went directly to the hospital’s ICU, fired a gun, and injured three employees, including doctors, nurses and custodians.

A response officer was killed in a gunfight while two other gunmen were injured before the fatal shooting.

“We have received a confirmation report from the gunman at the UPMC Memorial and fired the gunman. The gunman was dead and no patients were injured. The hospital is safe now, but is being transferred.” On social media Saturday.

“The hospital is safe now. Law enforcement is dealing with it and is managing this situation,” UPMC told CBS News in an email statement.

West York Borough Sharing On social media, the officer identified as Andrew Duarte was paid tribute to the officer identified as Andrew Duarte. According to the West York Borough, Duarte was killed in response to UPMC’s mutual aid call.

Penn State Police Police Officer James Grothey said state police officers from the local police department in York County responded to the shooting on Saturday. The county emergency management office told WHP-TV that officials responded to the “threat” of the hospital at that time.
