Canon’s New Camera Is in a Category Once Thought Practically Dead

A new scoring camera? In 2025? This seems surprising if you don’t follow the latest trends. The reality is that used price and the older compact camera has been through the roof. There is real interest, especially among young people, because the ability to have the camera separates from the cell phone.

Canon follows the latest announcements from Nikon, Panasonic and others, and its new cameras were once thought dead. The PowerShot V1 records 4K video at 60fps, captures 22.3 megapixel photos, and has a stable zoom lens.

Perhaps the most interesting, and suggests that there may be more cameras in the future, this is the V1 with a brand new 1.4-inch image sensor. Most of the V1’s competitors, such as the Sony ZV-1 II, have a 1-inch sensor. Larger sensors usually translate to better image quality.

Used for Vloggers, etc.

  • 1.4-inch sensor (similar size M4/3)
  • 4K60 crop, 4K30 full frame, with down sampling
  • 5,760×3,840 photos (22.3 megapixels)
  • RAW and C log 3
  • 16 to 50mm (35mm equivalent) f/2.8-4.5 lens
  • Dual-pixel autofocus
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI (Miniature), 3.5mm headphones and 3.5mm microphone jack

From talking refrigerators to iPhones, our experts can help make the world less complicated.

The V1 lacks an electronic viewfinder or a built-in flash, which is mainly used for video. It records 4K30 full frame and 4K60 with a slight crop. The new sensor uses the same dual-pixel autofocus as on the Canon R6 MKII. There are mechanical and electronic blinds, the former with a maximum shutter speed of 1/2,000 and the latter with a maximum shutter speed of 1/16,000.

From overspeed 16mm to a more portrayable 50mm (equivalent to 35mm) F/2.8-4.5 lens, this new, relatively large sensor can be overlooked. That’s the wide-angle GoPro level that might come in handy for handheld video recording and selfies – puns. Mechanical and electronic image stabilization helps keep the video smooth and without blurring the photos. There is also a three-slope neutral density filter for wider or longer exposure in bright light.

For those who want more support for videos and photos, 10-bit C log 3 recording and original image capture can be used. The V1 will include a “Dead Cat” off-road cover for better recordings outside. There is a microphone and headphone jack, so you can use a separate microphone to monitor and record audio. The versatile shoes on the top allow you to connect and power other Canon accessories such as wireless microphones.

Recording 4K video can heat any device, so there is a built-in cooling fan that can stay record-breaking (or at least for a long time)yes).

So…when?

Canon hopes to release the PowerShot V1 in late April. Currently, the camera is officially announced only in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. The U.S. release may be released sometime in 2025. Prices in the United States are also unknown. It is Japan 148,500 yenthe current exchange rate is US$989. Could this mean US$999? This will compete with the $899 Sony ZV-1 II and its smaller sensors.
