US Tottenham superfan jets in for four matches in 48 hours
Friday evening – Saturday lunch time – Loftus Road – Plow Lane, Saturday evening – Selhurst Park, Sunday afternoon – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Four venues, three leagues, more than six hours of football, nearly 67,000 steps, less than 48 hours.
That was the itinerary of American superfan Andrew Smith, just 10 and a half hours from San Diego to London Heathrow, 5,500 miles behind.
Push the love of games to the limit.
He said: “Some people might wonder why I take the time to do this, but for me, being a cultural voyeur, sometimes an intruder in the community, it’s very much with what we have in the United States Interesting, and different.”
“As far as the game itself is concerned, the quality here is much higher and the understanding of the fan base is more developed. The differences between levels are very interesting, and the differences between reasons are great.
“It seems to me that it’s like going to see a place of nature or history, and it’s a cultural phenomenon that I’m grateful for.”
