Meals Are Just a Bunch of Snacks Now
Key Points
- Since Americans have snacks more frequently than other meals, food giant Conagra tends to have smaller portions.
- The company is adding more frozen appetizers, such as smaller chicken and fried pickles. As the cock took off, it also made a bite version of Slim Jim.
- Conagra shares, which fell on Tuesday, are recovering some of these losses on Wednesday morning.
No snacks are too small to be a Conagra business.
The $12 billion food company behind Slim Jim Jerky and David Sunflower Seeds is dedicated to satisfying Americans’ hunger for snacks, with dick bites, frozen appetizers and new popcorn flavors. Size is a priority because consumers snack more frequently than they eat traditional meals, Conagra Brands (Conagra Brands) (CAG) explain.
Snacks are everywhere and now they are part of the meal, Bob Nolan, senior vice president of growth science at Conagra, said at an investor meeting on Tuesday.
“Snacks between meals are growing all the time,” Nolan said, according to a transcript provided by Alphaense. “One surprising element is actually eating snacks while dining, so as one side or part of the meal, or actually On top is the whole meal, combining three to four snacks together.”
Nolan said the market for mini and bite food has grown by more than 20% over the past five years. Conagra’s aim is to capture more with new frozen PF Chang chicken and frozen fried pickles.
CEO Sean Connolly said consumers want snacks with “better” attributes and protein, and the cock grows faster than any other food category. In response, Conagra is making resealable bite crepes, as well as chicken sticks with buffalo wild wings flavor.
Nolan believes that new flavors are important because consumers seek diversity. He said there are about 11 snacks in the household on average. The company has seen cinnamon-spicy sunflower seeds take off and adds a pickle-inspired corn puff and an Angie’s Boom Chicka Popcorn’s Mango Habanero version.
Conagra’s Stocks fell Tuesday After cutting outlook for the fiscal year, citing challenges offer challenges for frozen meals and frozen vegetables. In the action Wednesday morning, their growth was less than 1%.
