Eufy’s New Video Smart Lock Reads Your Palm and Much More
back Experience video smart locks on CES 2025I predict that they will be the new “big thing” in home security, an ambitious combination Video doorbell and Smart lock. Now Eufy is moving forward with an early announcement date on its own version, Familock S3 Maxthis may be the first video Smart lock Available for buyers this March.
The Familock S3 Max uses a 2K camera with a 180-degree diagonal field of view to capture anything happening outside the front door and pass it on to the video screen inside the doorbell (or in the Eufy app). Eufy’s motion detection and object recognition can also detect people 19 feet away from the lock.
Eufy’s video smart lock includes more than just video screens. This is also compatible, which means it will work with Alexa, Google Home, and Apple Home. The lock also has a BHMA Level 1 durability score, which can be used in residential and commercial locks, a relatively rare achievement in the world of smart locks and shows that it is particularly stable.
The Familock also tilts the battery life a lot, rechargeable battery and four AAA batteries, even if it fails and can support the full functionality of the lock for up to six months.
Eufy packages two different battery options into this rugged smart lock.
Eufy’s app can control the features of the Familock S3 Max, including lock/unlock sensing, motion detection, and a remote control for all functions. It also makes another unique part of this smart lock: the ability to read palm printing. Hover your hand over the lock, and it recognizes the programmed print and unlock without any additional steps. I’ve seen other palm reading locks beforeThey are contactless alternatives to fingerprint reading with interesting possibilities. Eufy’s Lock can hold 50 palm prints, enough for friends and family.
I’m not sure about the ultimate fate of video Smart lock Combination equipment. They are flashy and easily replace peepholes, but they have a lot to prove when compared to an easy-to-install video doorbell. Eufy’s approach combines several unique features and a great BHMA rating, which is promising, but also means there are a lot of tests on this lock.
I will continue to test Familock and its video features and then let you know what my last call is, but if you want one you can book On the Eufy website, the price is $400 (Discount available) or wait for the lock to arrive on March 17, 2025 online sites like Best Buy, Home Depot and Amazon.
