Six Nations: Aaron Wainwright embodies pain and hope of Welsh rugby
Wainwright may find himself at the feet of the Six Nations and Manchester United rugby champions, but his commitment is firm.
His attempt at Italy is the fifth of the season, and he has already made his best return in advanced rugby after just 11 games and has sent a glimmer of hope in the rain of Rome.
It was also a week after Antoine Dupont’s stud caused him to suffer a horrible facial injury in Paris.
Ireland will be lined up to put the boots into Wales next, but Wainwright’s career has resumed. Wales hopes to do so, too.
“Matt made an important point in changing the way of thinking and the players enjoyed the game they built in Wales,” he said.
“One huge thing is bringing together as a player community because we are the only people who can change things in the next few weeks.
“It’s a huge challenge to Ireland, one of the best teams in the world. They are incredibly detailed in everything they do and all the little things they can get rid of.
“So we have to keep the right attitude in the game and enjoy the challenge. I’m sure fans will feel that.”
