KFC is leaving Kentucky.
The U.S. headquarters of the fried chicken chain will move from Louisville, Kentucky to Plano, Texas Yum Brand Said Tuesday.
Over the next six months, approximately 100 kFC US employees will be required to relocate.
The relocation is part of Yum’s plan’s broader plan with two corporate headquarters: one in Plano and the other in Irvine, California. The global teams of KFC and Pizza Hut are already based in Plano, while Taco Bell and Taco Burger & Grill are in Irvine.
In addition, Yum’s remote workforce in the United States (with about 90 workers) will also be required to move to the campus where their jobs are located.
But Yum doesn’t completely give up on Kentucky. The company and the KFC Foundation plan to maintain corporate offices in Louisville. Additionally, KFC still plans to build a new flagship restaurant in its former hometown.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, many employers have been reconsidering the location of their company headquarters, which often stimulates moving due to lower taxes and changes in office space demand due to hybrid workforce or remote employees. In 2020, Yum competitors Dad John Moved headquarters From Louisville to Atlanta. Later, it canceled plans to sell its old headquarters instead of choosing to stay with corporate workers in Louisville.
