Joe Gomez: Liverpool defender may need hamstring injury operation, says Arne Slot
Liverpool manager Arne Slot said defender Joe Gomez will miss “most” of the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury, which may require surgery.
On February 9, England’s central defender was replaced 11 minutes after losing in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Liverpool.
Gomez first appeared six weeks later, with a previous hamstring problem.
The club has not yet decided whether Gomez, 27, who has been limited to 10 games this season, needs action.
But the slot says he might be “probable” and the defender will be eliminated for a long time, whether or not the operation is required.
“It’s a big blow for Joe and us,” Slot said.
“He really worked hard to come back and then the first game he came back two or three minutes later, we saw him sprinting and now he’s out for a few more weeks.
“So it’s always hard for every player throughout the season, let alone a part of the season everyone is looking forward to.
“He will miss most of the end of the season, but we hope he can go back to the final stage of the season.”
Liverpool faced Villa’s Aston Villa on Wednesday (19:30 GMT) when they hoped to score 10 points at the top of the Premier League seat with a victory.
Cody Gakpo missed Sunday’s 2-1 victory against Wolves at Anfield due to his defeat, but Liverpool is still out.
