Qatar Open: Draper and Alcaraz reach last 16 in Doha
Jack Draper made a strong run in the 6-2 7-6 (7-4) victory over Alexei Popyrin to enter the Qatar Open Second round of competition.
Eighth Seed – This is the first match since the injury against Carlos Alcaraz at the Australian Open in January – it takes only 27 minutes to compete in Dubai in Popyrin ) first set, and Popyrin couldn’t handle the British’s first game.
For Draper, the second set is much less simplicity, as Popyrin saves a breakout point that can keep the serve.
Draper made his debut in Doha, winning a tiebreaker, having his final 16 meetings with Christopher O’Connell in the Australian qualifier.
Earlier on Monday, top seed Carlos Alcaraz won the second round by defeating Marin Cilic 6-4 6-4.
Former U.S. Open champion Cilic – debuted since November due to a setback from a knee injury – rejected three breakout points late in the second set, which would put him up 5-3.
Alcaraz then won the serve on the final 16th and got a spot on the final 16th where he would face Zhang Zhizhen or Luca Nardi.
