President Cyril Ramaphosa arrives in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia leading the South African delegation to the African Union Summit

President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and brought the delegation of South Africa to the 38th General Assembly of African Heads of State and Government.

This gathering of the mainland leadership will be held this weekend, February 15 and 16, 2025.

The conference will focus on the 2025 AU theme as “African Justice and African Justice”.

In this context, the summit is expected to review and evaluate the achievements made by Africa in achieving long-term overdue justice, reparations, and decades of colonialism and apartheid, slavery, slavery and the transatlantic slave trade.

One of the highly anticipated responsibilities of the upcoming parliament is the election and appointment of the AU chairman and vice-chairman.

The General Assembly was held against the backdrop of challenges, including changes to government and post-election violence unconstitutional changes, threats to democratic governance, peace and security.

The mainland has also suffered from intrastate and intranational conflicts, terrorism and violent extremism, poverty, food and energy insecurity, climate change impacts, inadequate infrastructure, low productivity, trade barriers, and continued reliance on external aid and markets.

The General Assembly will elect new members of the AU Peace and Security Commission (AUPSC) to replace current members, whose three-year term will expire.

South Africa is involved in many maintenance and mediation efforts throughout the African continent, especially in the Interim High Commission in South Sudan. AU interim Libyan High Commission and deployed forces as part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Samidrc).

President Ramaphosa will be accompanied by Ronald Lamola, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation; Ms. Angie Motshekga, a veteran of defense and military; Ms. Mmamoloko Kubayi, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development; Mr. Parks Tau, Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition; Minister of the Presidency, Ms. Khumbudzo Ntshavheni; Mr. Dion George, Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment; Minister of Water and Health, Penmi Ma Pemmy Majorina, Minister of Public Services and Administration Inkosi Mzamo Butthelezi.
