Eritrea: Regular Meeting of the Southern Region Assembly
The Southern Regional Parliament held its 23rd regular meeting in Mendfera on February 12 with the theme “Resource Protection: The Cornerstone of Economic Development”.
The President of the Regional Parliament Mr. Wolday Gebre emphasized public awareness and participation in the national development plan and called on parliament members to work closely with the public to address existing challenges.
The governor of the region, as well as the heads of departments and branches, as well as the national associations, provided detailed briefings on the progress of the development plan in 2024. Key topics include the need to expand social service institutions, establish regional museums, strengthen efforts to strengthen economic capacity for enhanced efforts to sport activities, and strengthen control over cross-border trade in agriculture and veterinary medicines and fertilizers.
The region’s governor, Mr. Habteab Tesfatsion, also outlined plans for the planned 2025. He noted that key priorities include water and soil conservation, completion of dam construction and Micro-Dams, preparing for semi-plans, preparation for semi-plans. The city center of Mai-Mine and establish kindergartens in all public institutions.
After extensive discussions on the presentation report, the Conference adopted several recommendations. These include the establishment of youth training centers for innovative and creative activities, encouraging farmers to use organic fertilizers, and strengthening efforts to ensure access to nutritious foods.
