The High Delegation (OACPS) of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACP) led by Hon. Sierra Leone MP Matthew Sahr Nyuma politely treated the Foreign Minister’s Excellency MME. Sarah Beysolow Nyanti reiterated his commitment to strengthening cooperation with Liberia in the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, the Foreign Minister welcomed the delegation to the Ministry and emphasized Liberia’s leadership role in revitalizing the Mano River Alliance and the historical, cultural and economic ties between Liberia and Sierra Leone, highlighting the need for stronger collaboration. She recalls a meeting held in July 2024, where Liberia and Morocco collaborated on the development of the roadmap. The roadmap was signed by all four MRU member states and the Foreign Minister of Morocco, which included provisions to fund the construction of the MRU Secretariat in Sierra Leone.

“Liberia has proactively advocated resources to build the Secretariat as Sierra Leone has provided land,” she said. “In a year we have made significant progress in revitalizing the MRU. It is important that if the MRU is considered as Group, then potential investors will see a market of 60 million people, rather than an individual population of around 5.5 million. The discussion also addressed challenges faced by African, Caribbean and Pacific countries in terms of participation and voting rights within international institutions. The Delegation aimed to share the best practices adopted by Sierra Leone to maintain a good reputation with various international organizations, thereby strengthening Liberia’s position in the OACP. She called on MRU member states to work together to strengthen their position in international institutions such as Ecowas and the African Union. In addition, she seeks support from the organization as a campaign for the non-permanent seat of the UN Security Council for the 2026-2027 term of office.
