Six Nations: Ireland’s depth ‘pushing everyone forward’ says winger Calvin Nash
Irish Wing Calvin Nash believes that competition for localities has always been the key to a strong start for the Six Nations.
Simon Easterby’s team ranks first, and after winning the prize-point victory in England and Scotland, he can score 10 points.
The Munster man made his third test attempt at Murrayfield as Ireland scored a 32-18 victory on Sunday.
He won the win over England this year, but he entered the Scotland starter after Mike Hansen was excluded from Mack Hansen due to injury.
The 27-year-old started every game of the championship last season, as well as two summer tests in South Africa, but did not compete in four games in November.
“It’s tough to leave the team, especially when you close and keep training with them,” he said.
“It could be the beginning of six countries and I want to try to move forward and try to get in, obviously without the more disappointment I was selected.
“But I think as long as the game pushes everyone forward and the team goes in the right direction, I can get in, or anyone can get in. That could bode well for the team.”
Nash won two wins in the province’s Investec Champions League, but he was “confident” that he could have an impact on Scotland, although he only knew he would start in a week.
He added: “This is not my first game with the lad and the only thing you have to end up is the action. Apart from this just playing rugby in the system, you just have to insert rugby.”
“We all know this move, it’s your job. At the end of the day, I know I’m traveling and if I could have been hurt, so just knowing everything and getting into everything is my job.
“I am full of confidence in my abilities, and I think the leadership in this camp has also given me great confidence. I am just supporting myself.”
