Premier League’s existing PSR set to be retained for 2025-26 season after concerns over Man City legal case and new football regulator
The Premier League’s existing profitability and sustainability (PSR) rules are expected to remain next season, with its member clubs following discussions at shareholder meetings.
The club is expected to adopt a new financial model in the 2025-26 campaign, but its implementation will now be delayed.
The club did not formally vote for replacing the PSR’s club with a Class Cost Ratio (SCR) financial control system, which is currently working alongside the Up and Down Anchor Rules (TBA), but was asked to seek their comments.
According to sources, almost everyone said they were satisfied with SCR, except that a club who asked not to be named said they prefer PSR.
However, when should SCR be introduced. The debate is said to be positive and cordial.
PSR has been controversial. Premier League clubs Everton and Nottingham Forest both docked under the current system last season, which was introduced in the 2015-16 season.
The current regulations have led Premier League clubs to publish £105 million in losses over a three-year reporting cycle.
