Northern Ireland: Boss Tanya Oxtoby says NI ‘know what to expect’ in Nations League

Northern Ireland ranked second in Portugal in its National League campaign last year.

This year, they face Poland, and they qualify for this summer’s euro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, which they beat twice last year, and Romania.

They faced a campaign against Poland at GDANSK on Friday, February 21, and then welcomed Bosnia-Herzegovina to Inver Park four days later.

“We’ve been through the Third Nation campaign before, and we know what’s going to happen,” Oxtoby said.

“People will look at the results of Norway and may get something out of it, but for us, it’s been great and we want to move forward with momentum.”

The NI boss admits that the hardest thing about this fixture window is managing the player’s load and renting it with the club to ensure players are in good condition.

Oxtoby believes that her experience working in club football has helped her in this field.

“The challenge is to make sure players are ready and ready when camping, but they are not overtaken.

She added: “It’s hard for clubs and national teams to make sure we get the right balance, but because I’m from this background, it helps.”

“I tried to put myself on the club’s shoes, which was the best collaboration without having to step on my toes.”
