The Hundred: London Spirit buyer Nikesh Arora says concerned fans should ‘put their worries to rest’
Arora points to the IPL of the world’s largest and most successful franchise cricket league.
After its inception in 2008, IPL’s latest TV and streaming rights agreement was signed in 2022, worth $6.02 billion. The figures represent it alongside the NFL as the richest sports league in the Premier League in the U.S. and British football, with the cost of every game.
“We have seen a successful template that has been executed in India,” Arora said. “The question is, can the template be copied in England?
“If you look at it from an economic perspective, can you take the alliance and make it very popular? What has the IPL in India become, can you create that attraction in England? Can you create it globally? Our plan.
“Don’t forget the scarce value of eight franchises that exist in a sport. If you look at the media business. The only linearity left is sports. If you look at the last five years at least, every sports franchise will add value. More than just a heart decision.
Although control over hundreds of teams has been granted to investors and eight main airport sites, the England and Wales Cricket Council retains control over the game itself.
