Mikaela Shiffrin: US skier wins 15th World Championship medal, pairing with Breezy Johnson
American skier Mikaela Shiffrin won a record 15th World Championship medal as she and Breezy Johnson won gold on Saalbach’s inaugural team.
The event will debut in Italy next year with a skier taking place in the downhill race, then their slalom teammates.

It was Shiffrin’s 8th World Championship gold, and he used medals to imitate German skier Christl Cranz.
From 1934 to 1939, Cranz held a tournament every year, winning 15 separate medals, but Shiffrin set the standard in the modern era.
Switzerland won the silver medal with Lara Gut-Behrami and Wendy Holdener, who hit Shiffrin and Johnson with the fastest slew of 2:41.28, while Austria’s Stephanie Venier and Katharina Trumppe were 2:41.42 Ranked third.
Shiffrin suffered a puncture wound in a November crash in Killington, which left her alone for two months.
She only returned in the night round at Courcheval last month and said she would not defend her huge slalom championship later this week due to PTSD.
Shiffrin initially said that after Lindsey Vonn retired after her recent 82 World Cup wins, she wouldn’t be in the merger, and he blended the idea of a two-racing race.
But the U.S. federal decision is based on the current ranking, which means Shiffrin pairs with Johnson, while Vonn competes with AJ Hurt, and the two finish 16th.
