First Edition of the “48 Hours’’ of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Club of Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis Kicks off in Senegal
The West African region faces many challenges related to security, cross-border conflicts, political crises and economic insecurity. In this context, the active participation of civil society, especially young people, is essential to the implementation of integration and peace promotion policies.
To this end, Ecowas Club of the University of Gastonberg, St. Louis, Senegal held a meeting from 7 to 8 February 2025 to raise awareness, mobilize and attract young people and the surrounding local and institutional participants in the West Africa region. Issues of integration, cooperation and peace. Representative of ECOWAS residents in Senegal, Mrs. Zelma Fassinou, attended the meeting in St. Louis.
The ECOWAS Club’s “48 Hours” is a platform for communicating and thinking about how young people can build a joint, peaceful and prosperous West Africa and enhance the image of ECOWAS, promote its mission and develop an overview of participants. Aware of its activities to prevent and manage subregional conflicts.
The discussion focused on the use of diplomacy to promote integration and peace in Africa, as well as the mobility and integration of young people in the Ecowas region.
Outstanding experts led the leaders including Ambassador Saliou Cisse, General Jean Luc Dienne, Professor Alioune Sall, former judge of Ecowas Court, and Professor Moussa Diop.
At the end of the two-day meeting, participants gained a better understanding of the mission of Ecowas and its role in promoting regional security. The cultural diversity is demonstrated through exhibitions and performances, providing opportunities to discover and appreciate the cultural wealth of the Ecowas country.
Specific recommendations were made to strengthen collaboration within the university through student exchanges and to join higher institutions in the region through student exchanges and in the process of decision-making and political integration at the community level.
