Pentagon to restore Fort Liberty’s name to Fort Bragg
The Pentagon is changing the name of the military base Free Fort Back to Prague Fortreversed the decision made by the committee authorized by Congress to rename the foundation of respecting the Confederate General.
The Army Base will be renamed Fort Bragg, but it will respect a different Bragg than its original name, General Braxton Bragg, who fought for the alliance. Instead, it will respect Roland L.P., according to a memorandum signed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, it will respect private first class Roland L.
“This decision reflects the proud history of installation officials in defending the nation’s selfless service and sacrifice,” Pentagon press secretary John Ullyot said in a statement.
NBC News reports for the first time that the Department of Defense is considering this option.
Roland L. Prague (Roland L.
During the campaign, President Trump criticized the renaming. Mr. Trump at his October rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina – near where the military facility is – we did win two world wars from Fort Bragg, right? ” and promised: “We want to get it back. We are going to bring our country back. ”
Pete Hegseth said before becoming Secretary of Defense that the base should never be renamed. Heggs said in promoting his book War Wars, “We should change it because legacy is important. My uncle served in Prague. I served in Prague. It broke the connection that has been passed down from generation to generation.”
When he first entered the Pentagon, his former names were Fort Bragg and Fort Benning, referring to Fort Liberty and Fort Moore.
Fort Bragg and Fort Benning are Two of the nine bases of the Naming Committee, The coerced congressional committee renamed the foundation for respecting the Allies, and proposed a new name for this.
The annual National Defense Authorization Act, back-to-back, first banned naming devices after the alliance, and then established a naming committee. In 2020, Mr. Trump vetoed the defense bill, partly because of the basic name change provisions, but the House and Senate rejected his veto. Like the Army, the service sector still has a basis for renaming as long as they are not named after alliances.
The base is home to Army Special Operations and Airborne Forces, including the 82nd Airborne Division, which is often regarded by the U.S. military as the tip of the spear because it can be deployed quickly within 18 hours of notification.
Fort Bragg officially became the Freedom Fort at a ceremony in June 2023.
According to the committee’s report, the Naming Committee estimates that changing the name of Fort Bragg to Fort Free will initially cost more than $6 million, according to the committee’s report. It is not clear how much it will cost to change the name back to Fort Bragg.
Hegseth’s memorandum directed the Army to notify the Secretary of Defense of the acquisition and maintenance schedule and the necessary resources to implement the changes.
