Maps show snow storm forecast as Midwest and East Coast brace for winter weather

A parade of winter storms threatened more than 80 million from the Midwest to the East Coast across the United States on Tuesday, possibly possibly inclement weather.

Forecasters say the next winter storm could cover the country’s wide bands with up to 10 inches of snow. As driving temperatures in the front of the Arctic are below average, parts of the Northern Rocky Mountains, Great Lakes and Central Plains have also issued extreme cold warnings and cold weather consultations.

Weather services in Chicago and Hastings, Nebraska urge people to prepare for at least 6 or 8 inches of ice, while parts of Central Virginia and West Virginia have prepared up to half an inch of ice. National forecasters warn that excessive rainfall will bring risks of flash flooding and river flooding, in the lower Mississippi and Tennessee valleys and in the southern Appalachian Mountains.

Forecasters also said they expect heavy snow from the central plains to the Great Lakes region to develop on Wednesday, which may sometimes make the snowfall rate about 1 inch an hour. According to the weather service, there may be at least 5 inches of snow in these areas, while in Eastern Oklahoma and Ozarks, the combination of sleet and frozen rainfall is likely.
