Second Labour MP apologises over WhatsApp comments
The second Labour MP apologized for comments in WhatsApp chat after Andrew Gwynne was fired for messages sent to the same group.
Burnley MP Oliver Ryan said in a statement that his comments in the panel were “completely unacceptable” and he regretted “not saying it out loud at the time.”
Congressman Gwynne was fired as health minister on Saturday Sunday’s email report He sent a series of offensive and abuse messages in WhatsApp Group, which included other labor figures.
A government source told PA News that the party’s chief whip would talk to Ryan “without any action.”
Ryan added: “I didn’t see every message, but I took on the responsibility of not being proactive in challenging what is said.”
“I have made some comments myself, and I deeply regret that I will not make today, and I apologize with all my heart for this.”
He said it would be fully collaborative with the Labor investigation, which began with Gwen’s information revealing.
Gwynne was suspended and apologized to X in a statement on X, which declared any crimes arising from comments that were “seriously judged”.
Ryan, 29, said he was a member of WhatsApp Group from 2019 to early 2022, when he was a member of the Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. He was first elected to Congress in July.
He added: “Some of the comments in the group are totally unacceptable and I totally condemn them.”
“I’m sorry that I didn’t speak out at the time and I realized it was wrong not to do so.”
