Phoenix Open: Thomas Detry claims maiden PGA Tour title with seven-shot win

Belgium’s Thomas Detry won his first PGA Tour title with an impressive seven-shot victory at the Phoenix Open.

The 32-year-old 66, 64, 65 and 65 were 24 points overall, leading the Americans Daniel Berger and Michael Kim, both under 17.

Delhi ended his win with four consecutive birdies in his six-under par, and his wife and two children immediately congratulated him.

“It’s incredible, it’s the achievement of dreams,” Detry told Sky Sports. “It’s incredible to walk in the last hole.”

Former world No. 1 Jordan Spieth and South African Christiaan tied for fourth place under the age of 16.

Robert MacIntyre of Scotland scored sixth place in the 15-year-old with American Will Chandler and World 11 Justin Thomas, who finished sixth in the 15-year-old, who finished last Wheel 67.

Detry finished second in 65 games twice and started the day with a two-stroke lead in Scottsdale, Arizona.

He added: “In the past, I have given myself a lot of opportunities, but never had a conclusion. I’m so happy.”

It was Detry’s first professional victory since 2018 with Thomas Pieters in the World Cup.

The 31-year-old picked up his fifth birdie of the day at 15 of the fifth shot, briefly narrowing the gap to just two.

However, Detry remained calm and reached an incredible approach in the 16th stadium hole in the third pole to build a birdie with an effective closed title.
