High Potential’s Amirah J Talks Playing Ava, Teases Finale Cliff-Hangers

An ambitious single mother will be missing Tuesday night after next week’s high potential finale. But fans of the ABC show starring Kaitlin Olson can expect a second eye-catching costume, quick comments and unlikely mystery.

High potential Follow Morgan, a cleaning lady who becomes the Los Angeles Police Department’s primary crime consultant, applying her wisdom to a bunch of unresolved crimes. From high-profile murders to murders caused by families, no facts proved that neither mothers with an IQ of 160 nor her book partner Karadec could overcome it.

The show also has something to do with Morgan spending time at home, where key puzzles are related to her personal life. Morgan agreed to assist LAPD full-time in exchange for helping find Ava’s father, Amirah J. Roman, the father played by Amirah J. Roman, who disappeared 15 years ago when the teen was just a child.

Before the Season 1 finale, CNET chatted with Amirah J about her character, her feelings about the show’s success and whether the finale revealed more about Rome. In the show, Ava is a rebellious, obsessed child who must simultaneously deal with the differences between her missing father and her mom and brother, who inherits Morgan’s abilities.

Amirah laughs at the upcoming installment payments that will provide answers and cliff booms. When it comes to Ava’s father, she hasn’t learned the whole story yet. “I really want to know what happened,” she said. “So I’m excited for that story to go on.”

High Potential is based on the French series Haut Potentiel Instelide. The Season 1 finale will premiere on 9pm/9pm ET on February 11 at 9pm/8pm ET and on 12 at Hulu.

Q: How many differences do you think are there between Ava and her family?
Amirah J: I think they have a big impact on her. I think it’s hard for Ava to adapt to her family. She kind of felt that she didn’t necessarily belong to some extent because her younger brother had the ability that her mother had, and then her half-brother and half-sister who had their father, she didn’t have her . So she tried to browse all these different things and find a way that suited her family, which was very challenging for her.

Does this character teach you anything surprising?
Ava taught me a lot. Honestly, her way of growing up and family life was very different from mine. So it’s super fun to try to figure out why she’s like herself and how something affects her somehow.

The high-potential premiere hit 20 million viewers in 35 days on the platform. It was confirmed to return to Season 2. What do you think about the success of the show? What exactly do you hope to be AVA next season?
Honestly, it was crazy to see all the success the show had. Obviously, shooting a show, you have hope and hope it is successful, people love it, but actually seeing what happens is overwhelming to be honest – seeing all the numbers and records are breaking. However, I am very grateful to all the fans who are watching and everyone who streams and supports our show on Hulu.

I can’t wait to see Ava grow up next season and hope to learn more about her father’s disappearance and childhood, just like before her other siblings appeared, when she and Morgan were just her and Morgan’s life. I think it’s really great to figure out this dynamic.

Why do you think people are connected to the show?
I don’t think it’s like many other detective crime shows because it has family and family life that you don’t necessarily see all the time. And I think every character is related in some way to the way people can choose: “Oh, I’m related to this. I’m related to this.” I think it’s really cool, we have such a diverse cast and one Actors who have their own (life and storyline).

The audience gradually discovered more information about the disappearance of Rome. Will the ending provide more answers to this ongoing mystery, and if you can’t tell us, can you laugh at the ending of the fans?
Yes, I don’t want to spoil too much, but I do think that by the end of the season, fans will leave some cliff booms, hoping they won’t be too frustrated. But I think they will receive some answers. But we have to keep you the same as the cliff. We have to make it interesting…I really want to know what happened, so I’m excited to continue the story.
