Australia in Sri Lanka: Tourists complete nine-wicket victory to seal 2-0 series win
Australian Clinical Australia beat Sri Lanka in Galle early on day four to win the 2-0 series.
It took only 25 minutes for tourists to occupy the last two second hand wickets in Sri Lanka, dismissing their owners as 231.
That allowed Australia to win the first Test with innings and 242 innings, and despite losing 20 in the opener Travis Head, they chased 75 times and won before lunch.
Usman Khawaja ended up at the age of 27, while Marnus Labuschagne remained unbeaten at the age of 26. Sri Lanka Batter Dimuth Karnuaratne played the final matches in his 100th and final test.
It has blocked Australia’s first series in Sri Lanka since 2011.
Australian substitute captain Steve Smith said: “We have performed well from the start.
“The batsman’s plan and being able to adapt to the conditions here – it’s amazing.”
“I think all of our bowling is doing a great job.”
The game also ended the league phase of the 2023-25 World Exam Championship cycle.
Australia has already earned its place in the final in Lord in June where they will play South Africa, who finished on the table. Sri Lanka ended its sixth cycle, below England.
“It was a very disappointing to lose the 2-0 home series,” said Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva. “The conditions are perfect for us.”
“We didn’t have a chance to play since the first game and Australia proved why they made it to the final.”
