Adana Demirspor v Galatasaray: team quits Turkish Super Lig game in penalty protest
Adana Demirspor left the court in the first half of the Turkish Super LIG match in Galatasaray on Sunday in protest of their fines.
League leader Galatasaray leads the 12th minute after newly signed Alvaro Morata scores a goal against the department’s bottom side.
But as the game continued, Adana Demirspor’s manager Mustafa AlperAvcı called the player for a brief discussion. Shortly thereafter, the entire Adana Demirspor team walked out of the court and headed to the locker room.
The referee then left the venue and later announced that the game had been suspended.
Adana Demirspor Vice President Metin Korkmaz said the decision was aimed at the referee committee rather than Galatasaray.
He added that the decision was made by Adana Demirspor President Murat Sancak, who said in a TV interview on Saturday: “I hope the referee will be in the event of a referee. Don’t want Galatasaray to look cute.”
After the game, Sancak confirmed that the free throw decision was the reason for instructing the player to exit the game, and stressed that the move had nothing to do with Galatasaray.
“Anyway, we’re going to lose 99% today.”
The Turkish Football Federation will make its final ruling in the game.
“I don’t think it’s a very naive decision. It’s a big hurt for Turkish football. Sorry. I always have the effort to make Turkish football look bad,” Galatasaray manager Ken Burruk ( Okan Buruk) said after the match.
A similar incident occurred last season when Istanbulspor also quit the field during his home game against Trabzonspor.
Referees and alleged bias have been a problem in Türkiye’s highest flight, leading foreign referees from other leagues as video assistant referee officials.
