SONA 2025: Key Announcements Focus on Growth, Digital IDs, and Welfare
Cyril Ramaphosa outlined several transformational initiatives in South Africa in her national speech in 2025. Over R940 billion of major infrastructure investments are designed to address key gaps and boost economic growth and provide a significant contribution from public-private partnerships. Key initiatives include the introduction of a digital ID system, commitment to the national health insurance program, and the expansion of basic income grants (BIGs) to support low-income citizens. Ramaphosa also launched a R100 billion Black Economic Authorization Fund to support transformation. These measures are designed to improve social welfare and promote sustainable development.
