Cypriot gymnastics judge banned for helping compatriot qualify for Olympics
Fig also ordered European gymnastics to pay 8,000 euros (£6,670) to reimburse the investigation costs, adding that it cannot stop 16-year-old Tugolukova from participating in the Olympics because it is not a decision in the “competition area”.
trikomiti, chairman of the European Championships in Budapest in May 2024, was found to have “over-intervention” with the judge’s work to help Tugolukova Secure Secure Olympic qualification be obtained before Liliana Lewinska, Poland.
She was previously a judge at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
A representative for Trikomiti told news agency Reuters: “The disciplinary process against her was flawed from the outset. They are based on partial and incomplete investigations and rely on modulation of evidence.
“Mrs. Trikomiti has been a judge for many years, without any complaints, let alone sanctions.
“She works hard to ensure that all competitions are judged fairly, independent and without bias, and she is fully committed to continuing the work when the appeal is reached.”
Trikomiti’s daughter Chrystalleni represented Cyprus in the 2012 London Olympics and won two gold medals in Rhythm Gymnastics at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
European Gymnastics said it will consult a lawyer before considering an appeal.
The Cyprus Gymnastics Federation said it would “completely review” the ruling.
“We are committed to taking all necessary actions in accordance with the law and ensuring that appropriate measures are implemented,” it said.
