Croke Park NFL game: Dublin regular-season game will be ‘great celebration’ – Goodell
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Dublin held a regular season NFL game involving the Pittsburgh Steelers later this year and would be a “great celebration.”
Widely anticipated news from the Crocker Park Competition Confirmed on Friday Before Sunday’s Super Bowl in New Orleans.
Steeler’s legendary boss Dan Rooney died in 2017 and has a lifelong connection with Ireland and has been the U.S. ambassador to Ireland since 2009 and 2012.
“We’re really excited. It’s a great market for us,” said the NFL specialist.
“Obviously, the United States has a great connection with Ireland. The Pittsburgh Steelers also have specific connections through the (Rooney) family.”
Goodell added that the NFL received “a lot of media coverage (in Ireland), but we spent a lot of time throughout the year to promote the game and get the kids to play, whether it’s flag football or tackle football”.
He added: “All of this is part of our more popular effort there, and the game is a bit like a spark and gives more interest.”
