You Need to Update Your Netgear Router Immediately
NetGear strongly recommends that you update your router. The company addressed two key security issues that affected several Wi-Fi 6 access points and Nighthawk Pro Gaming Rouyters. It released security updates for two vulnerabilities earlier this week.
Several Nighthawks Wi-Fi router Affected by unauthenticated remote execution security vulnerabilities. In this security issue, an attacker can execute malicious code on the router without permission. Common vulnerability scoring systems are formulas for calculating security issues in computing systems. Netgear scored 9.8 out of 10 points (or 9.8 out of “criticism.”

Other devices affected are wireless access points, usually used in offices or large buildings where a single router is insufficient. This is an authentication bypass security vulnerability that will allow hackers to completely bypass the authentication process, perfectly suited to affected devices.

How to protect equipment
If you use one of the devices listed above, you should download the latest firmware as soon as possible. You can find detailed instructions on the affected NetGear support page router and Wireless access point.
Here is the step-by-step instructions for Netgear:
- Go to the Lord NetGear Support Page.
- Enter your model number in the search box and select your model number from the drop-down menu. The model is the number and alphabetical string at the end of the router name, i.e. “XR1000”.
- Click download On top.
- Below Current versionselect the latest download starting with the title Firmware version.
- Click download.
- Install the new firmware by following the instructions in the product user manual, firmware release instructions or product support page.
