Was Your Personal Data Exposed in the Grubhub Data Breach? Here’s How to Protect Yourself

Grubhub suffered a data breach recently, revealing personal data of diners, college students in delivery services Campus dining Plans, businessmen and drivers, Online food delivery service says Earlier this week.

The source of the vulnerability can be traced back to third-party service providers of the GrubHub customer service team. The name, email address, phone number, card type and the number of the last four digits of the payment card accessed by an unauthorized party.

“After discovery, we immediately started an investigation that identified unauthorized access to accounts related to the provider,” the company said. “We immediately terminated access to the account and completely removed from the system. Service Provider.”

GrubHub’s internal investigation found that customer passwords are not affected by this vulnerability, but some hashed passwords are. A hash password is a string of random characters that masks the real password saved on a company server.

Food delivery company confirms on its website that the hacker did no Access merchant login information, bank account details, social insurance number, full debit or credit card number, bank account information or driver’s license number. Grubhub did not immediately respond to further comments from CNET.

After the violation, what should I do to protect myself?

It is not clear how many people are affected by Grubhub violations. However, if you use grubhub and want to make sure you are protected, there are some steps you can take.

Request a new credit card (or update your virtual card)

All credit card numbers are not accessed in this vulnerability, only the last four digits. Still, if you have a saved credit card in your account, it’s a good idea to call your credit card company or bank and ask them to send you a new card in the email.

If you have Virtual credit card number Save in your account, we recommend using your card issuer to delete the number and request a new number.

change password

Although passwords are exposed only in the GrubHub vulnerability, there is no harm in updating passwords on your account. Remember to also update your password on other online accounts, you use the same login information.

Each online account you should have a different password for you. If you find this too difficult, please consider registering Password Manager.

Beware of phishing attacks

Both email addresses and phone numbers are compromised in the GrubHub violation. With this information, cybercriminals can create phishing attacks designed to steal your sensitive information or toil cash.
