Manchester City launch new legal action against Premier League APT rules

Manchester City has already raised new legal challenges to the Premier League against the new provisions of the sponsorship agreement, which the club claims are “invalid”.

Last year, an independent arbitration team found that all aspects of the League League Transaction Regulations (APT) were illegal after the champion filed a lawsuit.

These rules are formulated by the Premier League to prevent clubs from profiting from business dealings with owner-related companies that are considered “fair market value.”

In November, most top clubs Vote to approve the amendment Despite opposition from the city, but against the apartment.

Premier League CEO Richard Masters wrote in a letter to the club on Thursday: “On January 20, 2025, Manchester City Football Club began further arbitration to challenge APT Rules…New Challenges with Amendments to the APT Rules approved by the Club at the Shareholders’ Meeting on November 22, 2024.

“Manchester City Football Club seeks a statement that the amendment approved by the club in November (and therefore, the current APT rules) is illegal and invalid.

“The Premier League still strongly believes that the amendment passed in November is legal and that the APT rules meet all competition laws.

“We believe that the new arbitration must be resolved as soon as possible and that the same court is appointed to hear the new case. The parties are currently related to other instructions.

“The proper rules maintain full effectiveness and effectiveness, and the club still needs to adhere to all aspects of the system.”
