‘Changes have to be made’ – should Wales boss Warren Gatland go?
Another former Welsh second-tier Dan Biggar immediately described Saturday’s match against Italy as “the biggest match in the last 15-20 years” after France’s losses.
Although he added that Wales “desperately hope for a victory”, Gatland disagreed on Thursday.
Speaking on BR in Wales on Friday, Bigga said he knew Gatland’s opinion but reiterated the importance of the game.
“Obviously, when you’re not competing for a title, the round against Italy is not as big as the World Cup semi-finals,” Bigar said.
“However, the consequences of not winning tomorrow, what is coming and a tricky tour to Japan behind six countries.
“Some of these players have only played in Welsh jerseys in the last 10-12 games, but have not won.
“It’s all about the consequences of not winning Saturday, not bigger than the Grand Slam decision makers.
“If it doesn’t happen tomorrow, it’s hard to see where Wales’ next win comes from.”
Biggar, who won 112 blocks for Wales, said he thinks the game against Italy is a “coin toss”.
Biggar added: “I think tomorrow is a very positive opportunity for this Welsh group to instill some much-needed positivity.”
“Italy ranks very similar to Wales and struggled a little in the fall.
“It’s huge on both sides and I’ve said the game is definitely a coin all week.
“Welsh needs to make sure they land on the right side of the coin and bring back Welsh rugby.”
