Leicester City: Ruud van Nistelrooy dismisses transfer window shock at Foxes
Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy denied that he was shocked by the Foxes’ expenses that could not be spent in the transfer window and said they had to deal with “restrictions.”
Defender Woyo Coulibaly is the only signing, arriving from Parma for £3m, while the Foxes rejected Sunderland’s proposal for midfielder Kasey McAteer on the deadline.
Leicester heads to Manchester United in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday, with Van Nistelrooy naming teenager Jeremy Monga and 16-year-old Jack Evans (Jake Evans) on the bench.
Facundo Buonanotte and Odsonne Edouard rented from Brighton and Crystal Palace, respectively, which means the foxes can’t sign any domestic loans in the windows—and they won’t send it back.
Edouard has only played four alternative appearances, while Buonanotte has only started three games since Van Nistelrooy’s November appointment.
Leicester also has issues with profit and sustainability rules to ensure they comply with spending restrictions, which means they cannot spend a lot of money.
“Reality is not always what you want,” Van Nistelrooy said. “I am part of the picture and communication, so it’s not surprising that the development from November to the end of January, reality.
“What we have to deal with is that opportunities and limitations go hand in hand.
“The idea is that there are certain possibilities, but when the numbers appear on the table, they are different. We have to reevaluate and look at the possibilities within that framework.
“We can’t get them. Simple fact. It’s reality. We tried, but the focus is on affecting the players to strengthen the team. We did in Currybali, we were able to strengthen, but other possibilities were impossible.
“I’m pragmatic and keep moving forward and make the most of the young talent we have.”
