Kirian Rodriguez: Las Palmas captain confirms cancer relapse
Kirian Rodriguez, captain of Spanish club Las Palmas, said he will be unavailable for the rest of the season after suffering from cancer.
The 28-year-old missed action for 11 months after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2022.
Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a cancer that affects the lymphatic system, part of the body’s immune system that fights diseases and bacteria.
“I was told yesterday that I already had cancer,” Rodriguez said.
“I’m going to have to stop the game again and have another round of chemotherapy to fight this disease.
“I hope to see them again on 2025/26.”
Rodriguez was diagnosed with six chemotherapy sessions at the age of 26.
He completed the chemotherapy cycle in November 2022 and was completely cleared in January 2023.
The midfielder returned to Las Palmas in April 2023.
He is in the 21st place in the Las Palmas 22 Las La Liga fixture this semester, and the club is currently ranked 15th at the league table, 2 points higher in the relegation zone.
